I'm surprised they don't have Neverending Story as a mandatory module in a Canadian citizenship class. This was before Vancouver was the location for every third rate supernatural/sci-fi gibberish to fit into an hour on cable!
All of the scenes outside of the book, like the school, the bullies, Major Dad, and the unauthorized luck dragon tower fly-by were Vancouver, BC. Straight up Couv, yo.
The scenes within the book were a sound stage in West Germany. Except the swamp...that was just a public pool in East Germany. (BOOSH! Did you see what I did there?)
Also, you didn't share Darkplace with me. I shared it with you years ago! You assume that you are the font of all that is awesome. But this is not the case, DM.
Actually, DM got Darkplace from me - I remember because I watched Darkplace based on the title alone, and when I told DM about it she hadn't heard of it either.
No, you're both wrong. I learned about Darkplace when I was in the UK. That and The Lost Room, which I don't think either one of you has seen. It was made by SciFi back when SciFi meant something.
This episode is awesome. The Neverending Story plus a little mention of My Little Pony and The Carebears? I love you guys. Read the book!
