This week on TheAvod your friends Count Vardulon and DM watch two movies about science-enhanced men and a third movie about sex and death. Iron Man 3 is everything you expect from a third Iron Man movie, made all the better by the inclusion of Ben Kingsley. Frozen in Fear is surprisingly terrible given its pedigree, and Manborg is simply mind blowing. Tune in to learn what isn't a "stinger" and stay to hear a rant about Eli Roth.
A "stinger" is the bit at the end of the movie that sets up a sequel or works as a punchline (ie. Jeffery Tambor still alone in the cave in Hellboy Skeletor still being alive at the end of Dolph Lundgren's Masters of the Universe, Ming picking up his ring at the end of Flash Gordon), I think it comes from MST3K's post credit bit showing a funny bit from the movie unriffed (which they refer to as a stinger), it doesn't necessarily come at the end of the credits, but usually does.
ReplyDeleteThanks for ruining Masters of the Universe! How'm I gonna sleep tonight?
Deletejust watch Jean Claude Van Damme's Cyborg, it was originally scripted to be the sequel to Masters of the Universe and try and figure out who was supposed to be who in that movie.
DeleteNow that's a great idea for a show!
DeleteLooked into it, I was wrong. Cyborg is the result of Canon losing the rights to make masters of the universe 2 and Spider-man simultaneously. Cyborg uses the sets and costumes produced for those other two movies.
Deleteoh and the Astron-6 guys also made Father's Day, which I haven't gotten around to seeing yet but if Manborg and Bio-Cop are any indication it might be worth checking out. Troma put out a 4 disc special edition of Father's Day.
ReplyDeleteI should probably see it, too.
DeleteStill...so...confused....
ReplyDeleteDon;t fight it. Just let it happen. Let Manborg in.
